The dust had barely settled over the fractured shrine when the air shifted.“A shame you decided to kill the same people who regarded you as their kin, even more as their Savior.” The elderly voice echoed through the cavernous hollow beneath the temple, not loud but absolute. It carried across broken stone and fallen pillars as though the shrine itself had spoken. From the dim recess beyond the revealed stone tablet, a figure emerged slowly.

She moved with measured steps, frail and deliberate, her robes brushing across debris without urgency. There was no bloodlust radiating from her. No hostile chakra flaring. In fact, her presence felt calm, almost sorrowful. Yet something about her commanded attention.

Her eyes.

They were unlike anything the Genin had seen before. Sacred geometric patterns rotated within her irises, layered and shifting like a living kaleidoscope. Light fractured inside them in symmetrical designs that seemed older than any known clan technique. It was unmistakably a dojutsu, yet it bore none of the notoriety of the Sharingan. No tomoe. No ripple. Something far more esoteric.

She did not look at Gyoken. Nor Jin. Nor Kokezaru. Her gaze settled on Yugo. A faint frown formed on her lips, not anger, but disappointment. The look of a mother watching a child stray too far. “It’s time to learn where you come from and your destiny.” She paused, the silence heavy as she ignored the others entirely.

“Long ago, during the warring stages, the five great nations battled each other not knowing that, the seed of war was planted by an agent of the Shadow Realm, causing the strongest shinobi to clash. The moonlight district frequently served as a battleground during the various ninja battles, making most of its population war refugees.” Her kaleidoscopic eyes shifted subtly, reflecting the faint violet glow of the exposed stone tablet behind her.

“One man Eigo was shown the ability to manipulate the nature chakra around him, giving him the ability to not only heal one from fatal wounds but to gain incredible power by tapping into this source of absorbing nature energy in their body thus allowing them to fight. Thus he created a strong army enough to fight against the shadow realm, but the ignorance and bloodlust of the shinobi killed him, fearing that his ability to create abominations.” She stopped again, her voice thinning with the weight of history.

“But before he died, he birthed a son, that son is you Yugo. You must finish from where he left off, it’s your destiny. And you must destroy all those that get in your way.” Her eyes finally shifted, glancing briefly at Gyoken, Jin, and Kokezaru, not with hatred, but with cold assessment, before returning to Yugo. She waited. Not demanding. Not attacking. Simply allowing the revelation to settle like ash in the air, while her gaze drifted once more toward the ancient stone tablet, admiration softening her expression as if she stood before a relic of something sacred and long misunderstood.

Gyoken stood still, his eyes fixed on the elderly woman as her words lingered in the air like a storm that had yet to break. He listened, trying to piece together fragments of a world that existed long before he ever took his first breath. Stories of war were nothing new to him. His father had drilled them into him and his brother relentlessly, not as bedtime tales, but as warnings. Lessons carved from blood and loss. Every scar his father carried had a story, and every story ended the same way: be stronger, or be forgotten.

Those memories echoed now, louder than ever. The way his father’s voice would harden when he spoke of the past. The way training never felt like training, but preparation for something inevitable. A war that hadn’t come yet, but always felt like it was waiting just beyond the horizon. And now… standing here, facing a woman who spoke of destiny as if it were already written, Gyoken felt that same unease creeping back into his chest.

His gaze shifted toward Yugo, narrowing slightly. There was something off about all of this. He didn’t understand nature energy. He didn’t understand her eyes, her presence, or the weight behind her words, but what he did understand was instinct. And right now, every instinct in his body was screaming at him.

His jaw tightened, frustration and suspicion bleeding into his voice as he stepped forward slightly, placing himself just enough between Yugo and the woman without fully committing to aggression. “You can't be buying this load of bullshit, right, Yugo?” His tone was sharp, lacking its usual ease. There was no humor in it, no smirk to soften the edge, just raw disbelief. “One minute she's trying to kill us, the next she's preaching about your destiny?”

Gyoken’s eyes flickered back to the woman briefly, then returned to Yugo, searching for any sign that his teammate was wavering. He wasn’t the closest to Yugo, not like some bonds forged through years of trust, but they were still shinobi of the same mission, the same side. And that meant something. There was a tension in his stance now, subtle but present. Not quite defensive, not quite offensive, just ready. Because deep down, Gyoken didn’t fear the woman’s words. He feared what would happen if Yugo believed them.

Kokezaru alongside the rest of the crew, had made their way deeper as from seemingly out of nowhere they heard a mysterious, elderly voice that spoke up spouting absolutely outlandish garbage propaganda to seemingly make the group feel bad. In the end though all this did was annoy and anger the normally relaxed Kokezaru a sentiment shared by Ryuzaru. Kokezaru listened to her rant and Gyoken's following remarks before bursting out into a raucous laughter.

"Wow, granny you must be a comedian with jokes like that. You spout cryptic crap then attack us, now your trying to mess with Yugo. Why should we care about what you say? Why should we listen you've given us no reason to trust you. Hell, if anything you've given us every reason to not trust you."

The words rolled of his tongue with traces of venom and accusation, as right now Kokezaru was not in a good mood after having to combat attackers desperate to end their lives.

Yugo

Yugo shudders at the old woman's sudden voice his spine locks in response top her echo his gaze matching hers as his heart sinks in his chest. A brief internal thought roiling in his skull as he looks at her face wondering "Wh...what is this expression...disappointment?...sorrow?..." But those thoughts are cut short in the wake of her eyes gleaming with a light unlike anything he before had experienced. Her look was like that of a hawk he could feel her intent cutting him down to the bone quietly locking him in place as her first statement actually sinks in a sensation ringing in his ear louder and louder '...Kin?...Savior?!..."

Her story washes over him like cold water each word pouring onto him like a waterfall pushing him deeper and deeper into a ocean of cold dread. The young Genin had come to discern clues or hints at a past for his lineage his clan that had both cursed and blessed his blood for as long as he could remember. Her words evoke visages of grandeur that only barely register. Yugo finds the air sudden thin in his chest trying to process the details presented. He stifles a cough the weight of her stare keeping from his hand reflexively moving to his throat as he eventually says. "wait...WAIT...but where did it come from?...is this blood really just an anomaly? or did some ancestor seek to become...THIS!?" With those words an ominous resonance echoes out from his threat his tattoo spreads over the left side of his face his canine teeth visibly elongating as he pants briefly exasperated from the effort to both relent to this state and yet hold back the vicious instinct. His left eye's sclera darkens ominously seeming to make the orange iris within flicker like an ember in the dark as he stands transfixing the old woman with his own demanding stare.

In this moment the world was shadow and mist ephemeral save the demand to know what was hidden from him a fist clenching as his words carry the edge of his bloodline's violence resonating in his every word. "Why was my ancestor made into this? to fight this Shadow realm and its agents? what the hell do you mean when you say Kin and Savior?" He sees her eye shift to the others almost reminding him that they are there as he hears Gyoken's concerned calls a slight edge to Yugos own tone as he calls back "ENOUGH...!" With visible effort Yugo can be seen trying to regain control of the tattoo on his skin before he addresses the old woman. "Prove your words are true...you say my progenitor could heal with this power...I know how to heal myself but if his power is mine...THEN PROVE IT AND SHOW ME!"

The woman did not react to Kokezaru’s laughter. His words, sharp and laced with distrust, echoed through the broken shrine, but they found no purchase. Her expression remained unchanged, distant, almost hollow, as if his anger belonged to a world she had already moved beyond. Even as tension thickened between the Genin, she neither flinched nor shifted her stance.

Her gaze never left Yugo.

As the markings spread across his skin and his presence twisted into something heavier, more volatile, her eyes followed every detail with quiet certainty. There was no fear in her, only recognition. When he shouted, when his voice cracked with confusion and fury, she did not interrupt. She allowed it. Allowed the storm to rise. Then, only when he demanded proof, did she respond. “Your ancestor was not made into this,” she said calmly. “He chose to endure it.” Her voice carried through the chamber, steady and unshaken by the violence in Yugo’s tone. “What flows through you is not a mistake… and it is not an accident. It is incomplete understanding.”

She stepped closer, not toward Gyoken, not toward Kokezaru, but toward Yugo alone. The others were present, but irrelevant. “You force it. You let it consume you… because you were never taught how to listen to it.” For a brief moment, her hand lifted. The faint traces of nature energy lingering within the shrine shifted, subtle and controlled. The fractured stone at her feet trembled, then slowly knit together, cracks sealing as if guided by an unseen hand. It was not fast. Not violent. It was… deliberate.

Then it stopped. Her hand lowered. “This is what you asked for.” Her eyes met his again, unwavering. “Not power… control.”

Reaching inside her roll, she pulled out a scroll. The scroll lingered in the air between them, hovering just within Yugo’s reach as its seal pulsed faintly in rhythm with nature chakra. The scroll could only be opened and deciphered using the nature chakra. The woman’s gaze remained fixed on him, unreadable to the end. “If you accept… I will send for you when the time is right,” she said quietly. “That is when you will learn to control your power.”

And then, she was gone.

Not a step. Not a sound. No distortion in space. One moment she stood before them, the next there was nothing. Her presence vanished completely, her chakra signature erased so thoroughly it was as if she had never existed at all. Even the faint residue of her energy, something even the most skilled sensors might trace, was gone.

For the briefest moment, a small white snake could be seen coiled near where she once stood, its pale body catching the dim moonlight before it slithered swiftly into the shadows between the broken stones, then it too disappeared. Only the scroll remained, hovering in silence.

Before Gyoken could even react, before he could question her, challenge her, or step in, the elder woman was gone. One moment she stood there, the next there was nothing but empty space and the faint echo of her words lingering in the air. His Sharingan flickered, searching instinctively, but there was nothing to track. No chakra. No residue. Just silence. He exhaled slowly, the tension in his shoulders easing just enough as his gaze shifted toward Yugo. There was a lot he wanted to say; warnings, doubts, questions, but none of it felt like his place. This wasn’t his decision to make. For a brief moment, Gyoken simply studied him and then looked away.

“...Guess this is where things split.” His voice was calmer now, though still edged with uncertainty. He turned slightly, eyes drifting toward the shattered remains of the shrine, already piecing together what would need to be reported. Hokage Inoka would need everything, every detail, every anomaly, every word that woman had spoken, and knew hiding any information would be useless with the Hokage being of the Yamanaka clan. “Well,” he added, dusting his hands lightly as if trying to shake off the weight of the moment, “I’d say it’s time we get moving.”

Without waiting for a response, Gyoken formed a quick sequence of seals. A cloud of smoke burst around him, engulfing his figure before dispersing just as quickly, leaving him outside the shrine’s ruins, standing beneath the dim, purplish glow of the Moonlight District. He didn’t look back. There was no need. He already knew. Yugo would return to Kumogakure. And the rest of them… back to Konoha. But something told him this wouldn’t be the last time their paths crossed.
